Worth your time & money
Legends of Andolin is a classic fantasy book that hits every note it attempts to. It isn’t revolutionary by any means but everything it sets out to do, it does it well, and the book is just fun to read. Really recommend it.

Well-crafted Fantasy
This is a well-crafted fantasy adventure that will keep any reader flipping the pages. I enjoyed particularly the setting, which is a sort of fantasy-infused Herman Melville 19th century seascape. Highly recommended.

A great adventure story!
This is an immersive tale that harkens back to old Tolkein with modern touches that recall Neil Gaiman. I loved the humorous dialogue. A page-turned. Recommended!

Delightful
Who doesn’t love pirates and sea monsters and sword fighting especially when it’s done by a woman. I love the strong woman aspect as Adella searched for her missing brother and all the adventures she encounters on the way. Well written, engaging and great fantasy adventure.

Upcoming Author
There were points in this story where I really became lost in the exciting world and the characters. lol was my favorite, but all characters have a unique role and personality. I recommend for readers who like pirate books, but are wanting something deeper beyond some of those surface level pirate tales.

Sword and sorcery for teens
If you like female protagonists (which are so overdone) then this might be your cup of tea. The POV is omniscient which is also somewhat annoying and old timey which is maybe making a comeback.

This book attracts in the beginning by its fast paced plot. The action and adventure got really intense as the story develops. I admire the cleverness and courage of Adella, inspiring and also entertaining. This is a long book that keeps me entertained for a couple of days.

Overall enjoyable read
If you are into fantasy novels, you might want to consider reading Legends of Andolin. This book, Adella of the Campos, is supposed to be the first in a series. I have to admit that this is not my favorite genre, but this is fast-paced and entertaining enough to keep me turning the pages, and I also loved how there was a mixture of action and witty dialogue. Overall it’s well written and a fun read, but for me it was just nice to pass the time with. Worth a read if you are into fantasy adventures.

Exciting Story
Adella Grimless lives in Greywood Manor as what might be called ‘landed gentry’. When soldiers from a neighboring land storm her home and almost kill her, she runs into the woods. There she meets a few of her household staff and a strange man. So, the adventure begins.Although this book is listed as fantasy, it is really a medieval adventure story. There are strange creatures and magical artifacts, but they only play minor roles in the story. Most of the book involves exciting adventures on a long journey. The story is complex and interesting. And the characters are well developed and easy to like.It is not a cliffhanger. There is an end to the story, but with a hint of more to come.Reviewed by Romana Drew November 3, 2021.

Fun Fantasy Adventure
This is A. M. Portman’s first novel and she has complete control over her story and style. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy, action and adventure. I could see my teenage daughter enjoying this as well as I did as an adult. The only drawback I can think of is it is a bit slow in the beginning, but as the plot unfolds I found myself unable to put it down. The character development was amazing watching Adella and her friends grow. I am on Team Kol. I am looking forward to a sequel and recommend this read.

Gripping Fantasy Adventure
Legends of Andolin: Adella of the Campos was very well-written and I LOVED the characters! Adella is a strong lead who never gives up despite many obstacles and hardships. The writing was engaging and descriptive so you can feel every scene. And the price was amazing for the length of this book. Highly recommended for any fantasy enthusiast!

I loved the story
Not predictable, full of adventure and violence. Some editing issues. A lot unexplained mainly do to the h being unable to be truthful even with those she trusts? I like the H better and would have liked more about him. Getting racier as it goes along. That concerns me.

Excellent and Engaging! Loved every moment of it!
The characters in the stories are well-developed and make me want to care about them. The complexities of each hurdle develop these complex individuals as if they were real people, just like us! I love reading how every story ends with an unexpected twist that brings everything full circle at the end.

Great fantasy book
This book contains a huge variety of different characters and different types of characters – I really enjoyed that. I love books where all types of monsters meet each other and their cultural differences make the content so much more exciting. It reminded me of many books I have read before, but every single piece was really well put together and easy to read.

Enjoyable fantasy.
I’m not unusually a fan of fantasy, but this one keep my interest through the whole book. It was fast paced and interesting enough to where I keep turning the pages. The characters were well-developed, so I was more interested in them and cared more about them and the outcome of their lives. Over all a food read for fantasy lovers.

Good fantasy story
A noble girl ventures into enemy territory in search of her brother accompanied by a motley group of companions. Trust is the issue here. The reader doesn’t know who is trustworthy and who isn’t, as the protagonist stumbles from one incident to another. The people she trusts are untrustworthy, and the people who can’t be trusted are trustworthy. The relationship between the protagonist and the desperado enemy soldier throughout the road trip gives the plot its propulsion.

A Real Page Turner
From the very beginning, I could tell that this book would be a real page turner. I could quickly tell that my instincts were right. I loved it from the first page to the last, and my only regret was that the story wasn’t even longer. The characters were well developed and the story was excellent. Would recommend to anyone who wants to sit down with a good book and be taken to another realm for hours.

Glorious action scenes, and deep emotion
This author really knows her stuff when it comes to sailing gear and terminology. The same could be said for their knowledge of all things horses, and weaponry. Wow the glorious weaponry!!!! I’ve learned so much from this book. The author really did her research, and or happens to know a lot about the subjects involved. These characters are easy to relate to, and you want everyone to succeed on their journey. There’s also a huge pull on your heart, when it comes to the theme of loss, which adds a really deep emotion to the thrilling adventure. The writing style and journey is fast-paced, and very realistic feeling as a reader. Don’t forget, there’s a book TWO as well.

Loved it!
Legends of Andolin: Adella of the Campos is the first in a series by debut author A. M. Portman. Inspired by classical fantasy stories, Legends of Andolin draws inspiration from the Western and Sea Adventure genres within a unique world reminiscent of 18th-century Europe, but with a modern, fast-paced plot reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean. A modern-day classic that’s fast-paced, engaging, and full of unexpected twists! Highly recommend!

A fun, pirate-esque, fast paced tale
The author and I followed each other for a while, and they very kindly offered me a copy of their book for my reading enjoyment. Enjoy I did!The book is fantasy, but leans very heavily into the dress, language, weaponry of pirates. Which is A-okay with me. The author does a good job with this as it is grounding, but also still unique enough to read entirely as its own thing. Readers get both the typical fantasy journey on horseback/walking with danger and urgency, as well as ships sailing with time for hammock relaxing. But that relaxation doesn’t last…did I mention there are sea serpents? The author writes believable and enjoyable characters that had me following along and rooting for them (and their survival) the entire time. They are dynamic, with ups and downs, and every single one progresses as people throughout the story. A personal favorite for me was Armand, who I pictured Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth’s actor from Game of Thrones) the entire time. The stakes are real, real “on screen” characters are lost, and the momentum builds the entire time at the appropriate pace. All in all, I am impressed, and I am a fan.Absolutely worth your time, effort, and money to read this one

Women can do anything they set their mind to
Adella is on a journey to find her missing brother. Along the way, she must face pirates, sea monsters, and assassins. My fave excerpt from the book is when the protagonist meets Captain Declan on a boat and he must prove her identity. This is a modern-day classic and the book is full of unexpected twists and is easy to follow and engaging and entertaining and nostalgic and full of action and suspense. Fans of J. R. R. Tolkein, Sarah J. Maas, Neil Gaiman, and Robin Hobb may enjoy this book.I thought the theme was that women can do anything they set their mind to.The part I liked the most was the way the lady moves her body through the space. I don’t have it in front of me, but I remember thinking she moved like a dancer. That’s a physical life, and we don’t see it very often in sword fights. I like the way she uses her body and stays grounded and doesn’t make too much of a display of her sword work. The truth is, most sword fights in movies and novels and plays and comics and TV shows now, those strikes are all the same. They’re no longer anything like sword fighting at all. They’re like one person is batting around a balloon. And that’s not like actual sword fighting at all.The old sword fighting was based on fencing and that was based on using your whole body as a weapon and as a shield, and you could use your stance and your balance and your weight and you could use the sword. The reason people think the Japanese swords were so deadly is that they were so light and so sharp,I think there are a few areas that merit further exploration:1) Adella has probably had many conflicts before. She has skills. her sword skills are quite extensive, but she is also resourceful. Why does she want to go on the ship? How is it different from staying at home?2) The captain has had many battles. He is experienced. Why is he defeated by Adella? What is the reader’s sense of him?3) The world-building is intriguing, but there are so many hints, so many of which are not fulfilled. What are the implications of the world-building?

An intense story since the begining
Legends of Andolin:Adella of the Campos, by A.M Portman is a fantasy story which since the very begining start with action, this is because, the Adella’s house was invanded, robbed and burned by mercenaries. So she has to find her brother who was kinnaped by this people. Also, the story give us a very brave female character who is Adella, and she would do everything to bring her brother back and find who did this to her and her family.Kol is great man!In this story you will find a lot of things, more than just a quest, like sea monsters, lost and forbibben treassures, traitors, fights with swords, and also, a slow burn romance. Also, there is a moment in the book I feel like I was seeing an Indiana Jones’ movie!I really enjoyed of this story and I’m hoping for more!

A very nice fantasy
I enjoyed this read. It wasn’t quite a 5 star for me, but I’d easily say it is a 4.5.I liked the character development, the plot, the pace of the story-telling…and I really enjoyed how this author wrapped up chapters; making me not want to put the book down and read on.This is a first book for a new series that makes me definitely want to check out the second when it comes out.

I don’t read a lot of fantasy books, but I decided to give this book a shot anyway. I wasn’t disappointed, and I believe hardcore fans will probably really get a kick out of it.
